Using eClass with New Browser Versions
Posted on March 29th, 2011 No commentsBoth Internet Explorer (IE9) and Firefox (FF4) have released major upgrades to their browsers in the last few weeks. While these browsers should function normally with eClass, we recommend that users not upgrade their browsers immediately.
The reason for this is that there is always a lag before Blackboard completes its certification process for new browsers. The pop-up browser checker will show a red X beside the browser version until Blackboard completes these updates.
In addition, some users who upgraded to IE9 have reported issues accessing eClass if they were not using ‘Compatibility View’. We have a knowledgebase article outlining how to fix this problem available here.

Using Online Question Banks
Posted on March 23rd, 2011 No commentsThe latest release of Respondus has an excellent new feature that simplifies the process of using textbook publishers’ question banks. These supplementary resources have been available from publishers for some time but now incorporating them into eClass courses has become much easier.
Respondus is centrally supported Windows software, available as a free download from the CTL website for U of A faculty and staff. The program will walk you through accessing your publisher’s question banks, allow you to manipulate and organize questions, and then publish questions directly into quizzes in your eClass courses. See http://www.ctl.ualberta.ca/elearning/eClass/respondus.php for more details on how to download and use this tool.
If you have any problems or questions about how to get started using Respondus, don’t hesitate to email us at respondus@ualberta.ca.
